Sintering properties of hydroxyapatite powders prepared using different methods

چکیده
In the present work, the sintering behaviour of HA particles prepared via the wet precipitation method (HAp) and wet mechanochemical technique (HAwm) was investigated. The sintering behaviour of a commercial HA powder (HAc) was also studied for comparison purpose. All the three powders were characterised in terms of particle size, Ca/P ratio and crystal size. Green samples were prepared and sintered in air at temperatures ranging from 1000 1C to 1400 1C. The sintered bodies were studied in terms of the phase stability, relative density, Young’s modulus, Vickers hardness, fracture toughness and grain size. The results indicated that HAwm samples suffered phase decomposition while the HAp and HAc sintered samples showed no phase disruption throughout the temperature range employed. The HAp samples exhibited the overall best densification and properties when compared to the HAc and HAwm samples. Furthermore, the results showed that mechanical properties of sintered samples were governed by both the bulk density and the grain size. & 2012 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l. Effect of Sintering on Microstructure and Properties of Hydroxyapatite Produced by Different Synthesizing Methods
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the sintering schedule on microstructure and properties of hydroxyapatite which is produced by different synthesizing methods. Hence, wet-chemical precipitation and solid-state reaction were performed to prepare nano-sized hydroxyapatite (HA) powders. Powders were then uniaxially pressed and sintered by varying temperatures and times. XRD an...
متن کاملCharacterization of the Compaction and Sintering of Hydroxyapatite Powders by Mercury Porosimetry*
Pvlercury porosimetry was used to measure the bulk and real densities, pore volumes and pore size distributions of compacts of hydroxyapatite before and after sintering. The hydroxyapatites were prepared by two different methods and had widely different surface areas. The properties were determined as a function of compaction force and sintering temperature. Densities from porosimetry were in g...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation of FGM Dental Implant Properties Made from Ti/HA Composite
Although titanium/hydroxyapatite composite is an attractive material for dental implants, it would be more useful if it could be produced as a functionally graded material (FGM). In this paper, microstructure and microhardness of a five-layer titanium/hydroxyapatite functionally graded material has been investigated. First, titanium and hydroxyapatite (HA) powders were mixed with the Ti to HA v...
متن کاملA STUDY ON SINTERING BEHAVIORS OF COPPER COATED SIC COMPOSITE POWDERS FABRICATED BY ELECTROLESS PLATING AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE CONSOLIDATED COMPOSITES
Copper coated SiC powders having three different amounts of copper, in the range of 20-60 wt%, were prepared via electroless coating process. The produced composite powders were uniaxially cold compressed and sintered at different temperatures and times under protective atmosphere. It was found that composite Cu/SiC powders and a relatively dense copper matrix composite with a uniform distribut...
متن کاملSol-gel synthesis of 13-93 bioactive glass powders containing therapeutic agents
In the current study cerium or galliumcontaining silicate based 13-93 bioactive glass powders were prepared using sol-gel method. Cerium and gallium ions were chosen due to their well-known therapeutic actions and antimicrobial properties. Effect of cerium and gallium substitution (up to 5w%) on the in vitro bioactivity, and mechanical properties of the prepared powders and scaffolds were asses...
